Camp Olympia Riding Center
Facilities / Licensing
Camp Olympia Riding Center, established in 1958, offers a unique environment, close to the city yet with a strong country feeling. The riding center is located in the heart of Montgomery County on Muncaster Mill Road. We feel very fortunate to offer lots of open space for high quality instructional riding. In addition, Camp Olympia backs onto Rock Creek Park and offers great cross-country trail rides (for our students ONLY – no rentals). Come spring and summer, you will see a strong European influence all over the property, which is evident in Steve's and Elizabeth's love for flowers.
As for our facilities, we have 16+ school horses for all levels of abilities, one indoor ring, one outdoor lighted ring, one lunging ring, two large grass dressage fields, a large jumping field with about 20 jumps, and miles of cross country trails. We are a fully equipped, high quality instructional facility. We are fully licensed through Montgomery County and the State of Maryland. Plus, we are members of CHA, Certified Horsemanship Association for Safety and Education.
Lessons
Lessons are year round and offered for Adults and Children (ages 5+). Group riding is offered for winter, spring, and fall sessions for 12 weeks, primarily on Saturday mornings, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings. The summer group session is 10 weeks and offered on weekday evenings. During the sessions, we take the riders out on one or two cross country trail rides and will host at least one horse show. Riders ages 5 - 7 MUST have an adult accompany them each week to assist with leading the horse. Jogging is involved.
Private and semi-private lessons are also available at a time convenient for the student and the instructor. Private and semi-private lessons are offered in a series of five.
One make up lesson is allowed per session (except ages 5 - 7 and beginners) and must be scheduled within two weeks of missing the regular class. No make-ups are given for the last class of any session. Should the Camp have to cancel a lesson for any reason, the session will be extended for one additional week.
Registration
Registration begins one month prior to the session opening: winter begins mid-December, spring begins mid-March, summer begins mid-June, and fall begins mid-September. To register, please call the Camp for registration information. We encourage you to register early as the classes fill up quickly!
