Nursery School and Child Care

Camp Olympia Country Day School was established in 1981 when we decided that it was too quiet after the busy summer camp activities. After living in Rockville, Maryland for many years, the owner, Elizabeth Benedek, realized the need for quality childcare. Elizabeth and her husband, Stephen, decided to transform their home in Rockville into a Nursery School with a wonderful outdoor environment. We have enjoyed all the activity of our young children for the past 30+ years!

Camp Olympia Country Day School offers a very unique country environment for your preschool age child. We are a licensed and approved Nursery School, Kindergarten and Child Care Center operating at 5511 Muncaster Mill Road, Rockville, Maryland approximately 10 miles from Washington, DC and conveniently located near Rockville, Olney, Gaithersburg and North Potomac. Our school offers a classroom setting for ages 2 – 6, with a balance between teacher directed instructional activities, independent and group projects, child-initiated experiences, free play and plenty of outdoor time.

Enrichment activities will be incorporated daily which include Physical Education, Art and Music. We take full advantage of our extensive outdoor setting observing and visiting the various animals around the farm. Along with the horses, ponies and donkeys, we have the chickens, rooster, rabbits, goats and our latest attraction, 3 little kittens! We also enjoy daily nature hikes. We love the outdoors!

Our school is licensed by the State of Maryland Department of Education Office of Child Care and Maryland State Board of Education. We also hold a Private Educational Institution License from Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

Statement of Purpose

Our youth program strives to foster the development of the whole child. We provide opportunities for nurturing growth in all of the developmental areas, including cognitive, sensorimotor, communication, social and emotional.

We are very fortunate with the environment surrounding our facility. We are located in a country setting that offers many opportunities for nature education experiences. These experiences will foster an appreciation for nature, learning physical characteristics of the natural world, enhance language development and contribute to their sensorimotor skills.

Our goal is to prepare you child for the years ahead. Along with the age appropriate academics of math, science, language arts and social studies, we work to develop in your child a good self-esteem, interest in learning and pride in achieving. We also have many activities involving physical skills to develop large motor coordination, listening and following directions. We look forward to working with your child.
